Born in 1981, Britney Jean Spears grew up in Louisiana where she sang in the local Baptist church choir. She attended the Professional Performing Arts School in New York during the summers and appeared in several off-Broadway plays. At the age of eleven, she was cast in the Disney Channel’s “All New Mickey Mouse Club” where she would stay for the next two years.
After a brief stint in a teen pop group called Innosense, Britney decided to launch a solo career. Her big break came when she was just seventeen, with the release of her first single, “…Baby One More Time”. Both the single and Britney’s debut album of the same name went to the top spot in the charts in the USA, and had worldwide success.
Britney’s second album, “Oops!...I Did It Again!” turned gold within one week of its release in the USA in May 2000, breaking sales records. Sell-out tours filled with sexy dance routines were hugely profitable and further albums, “Britney” and “In the Zone” followed.
The Grammy Award winning singer hasn’t been out of the public eye since, being stalked by paparazzi, gracing the covers of countless magazines and having constant coverage on radio and TV. A pop icon, she has also appeared in films and television shows such as “Will & Grace” and published four books.
In 2004, Britney married dancer Kevin Federline, and the couple had two sons, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, before Britney filed for divorce in November 2006.
2004 was also the year in which Britney Spears launched “Curious” with Elizabeth Arden, the first of a highly successful line of fragrances and related items endorsed by the star. The delightful “Fantasy” followed in 2005 and also became a top seller.
A limited edition version of “Curious”, called “Curious In Control” was launched in April 2006, and a limited edition version of “Fantasy”, called “Midnight Fantasy” was launched in some stores in December 2006. “Midnight Fantasy” proved to be so popular that a mass-market launch was set for Valentine’s Day, 2007.
