Born in London in 1932 to American parents, Elizabeth Taylor was one of two children. The family soon moved to Los Angeles in America to avoid the troubles of World War ll. She became an actress at a young age and in 1942, aged nine, she appeared in her first movie, “There’s One Born Every Minute”. Her education was through the University High School of Los Angeles whilst on the MGM lots, earning her a high school diploma.
Over the years, her beauty and talent have helped her to carve out an outstanding acting career spanning many years. Well loved, Liz Taylor has appeared in numerous movies including “National Velvet”, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, “Cleopatra” and “That’s Entertainment”. Her career has also included as many TV roles and stage work both on Broadway and in London’s West End.
The epitome of true Hollywood glamour, this great movie icon has received some of the most prestigious awards for best actress, including a Golden Globe and Academy Award for “Butterfield 8”, and a second Academy Award and a BAFTA for “Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?”. In 1993, she was the recipient of an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to film and is also a Kennedy Centre Honoree. In 1999, she proudly received the honour of Dame of the British Empire.
The actress and businesswoman is also actively involved in charity work, focusing her efforts towards the fight against HIV and AIDS. She has been at the forefront of campaigning for those suffering from the disease for many years and she helped to establish the American Foundation for AIDS Research. She then started The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, her hard work, strength and compassion earning her a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1992. In 2001, Bill Clinton bestowed a Presidential Citizens Medal upon her.
The actress once thought of as the world’s most beautiful woman has been plagued by bad health for years, but she still manages to be a highly successful and respected businesswoman. She has her own line of jewellery, which is a strong love of hers and she’s thought to have one of the best personal collections in the world.
She also has a highly profitable and successful fragrance line which is inspired by her own amazingly fragrant and beautiful garden.
