Alexander McQueen Perfume

Alexander McQueen was born in East London in 1969, the son of a taxi driver. He began working at 16 as an apprentice tailor on London’s famous Saville Row. Initially employed by Anderson & Shepherd and then by Gieves & Hawkes, McQueen was able to learn the basics of clothes construction before moving to Angels and Bermans, the famous family-run theatrical costumiers based in Shaftesbury Avenue.

At the age of 20, McQueen went to work for Japanese avant-garde fashion movie costume designer Koji Tatsuno for a year, before moving to Milan where he worked for Romeo Gigli. He then returned to England, and studied for a Masters degree in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.

After fashion stylist and “Tatler” style-editor Isabella Blow bought his entire St Martins College graduation collection for £5,000, a substantial sum for a student, Alexander McQueen attracted lots of publicity for his often controversial fashion shows. Often nicknamed the “enfant terrible” of fashion, McQueen has also gained publicity for his outspoken views, but his designs have continued to earn him respect and won him many awards.

In 1996, he was awarded the title of “‘British Designer of the Year” and became Head Designer at Givenchy, where he stayed for five years. He was awarded the “British Designer of the Year” award a further three times, in 1997, 2001 and 2003, named as “International Designer of the Year” by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2003 and won a British Menswear Designer of the Year award in 2004. He was also awarded a CBE in 2003.

Today, Alexander McQueen collaborates with many leading fashion brands, producing a range of acclaimed and stylish products including perfume, and he has stores in London, New York and Milan. His fragrances are notable for their tantalising blends of scents and impeccably designed bottles and packaging.
