Burberry is a UK fashion company with one of the world’s most distinctive check patterns.
Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, the company initially focused on producing outdoor clothing, and in 1880 Thomas Burberry invented gabardine – a hard wearing, water resistant and breathable fabric. In the early 20th century Burberry was commissioned to make garments for military organisations and explorers and the famous Burberry Check first appeared when it was used on fabric for lining trench coats.
Burberry soon became the clothing of choice for many fashion consumers and the company was awarded two Royal Warrants, the first by the Queen in 1955 and the second by Prince Charles in 1989.
The brand’s range now includes many different fashion products, including fragrances and, with a reputation for being popular amongst high profile celebrities, Burberry is one of the most appealing brands of perfume in the world.
