Versace was founded by Gianni Versace, whose flamboyant and glamorous lifestyle was reflected in his designs. Born in 1946, Versace learned to create clothes as a child, and by 1978 he had opened his first shop in Milan, and presented his first signature collection, using the distinctive ‘Medusa’ logo.
One of the most famous brands in fashion, the Versace brand epitomised the styles of the 1980s and 1990s, and has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in recent years. Today the company is headed by Donatella Versace.
Versace is noted for its range of classically referenced, geometrically shaped female clothing, and has also produced a range of acclaimed perfumes.
